Felleisen develops and manufactures custom-fit exterior insulation for campers and motorhomes. Our three product lines, Shelter Light, Shelter Comfort, and Shelter Thermic, are designed for different requirements and areas of use – ranging from compact sun protection for on the go to high-performance insulation for the cold seasons.

Good exterior insulation must be able to do more than just cover the windshield. It must fit the vehicle, be quick to attach, function in everyday use, and, depending on the application, provide reliable protection against sun, heat, cold, and weather.

That is why we develop our Shelter insulation with a clear focus on fit, functionality, and durable materials. Each product line follows its own concept – from a lightweight and space-saving solution to three-layer insulation for demanding conditions.

Perfect fit. Magnetic. No velcro.

Our Shelter-Comfort and Shelter Thermic are custom-made for various camper and vehicle models. The magnetic fastening allows for quick installation without the need to permanently attach Velcro strips or other fasteners to the vehicle.

Additionally, we have a three-part cockpit design; the front and door window insulation are separate, allowing the vehicle doors to be opened completely.

Shelter Light

The lightweight solution for on the go

Compact cockpit insulation with a small pack size. Ideal if you are looking for uncomplicated privacy and sun protection and want to take up as little storage space as possible.

Shelter Comfort

The versatile solution for summer and the transitional seasons

More than classic exterior insulation: The Shelter Comfort combines heat protection with ventilation, an integrated mosquito net, and protection against water ingress via diffusion. The side panels can be opened or rolled up for ventilation – even when it is raining.

  • Heat Protection

Blocks sunlight from entering your vehicle, effectively keeping the heat out.

  • Water diffusion stop

No textiles protrude into the vehicle interior, preventing water from entering through diffusion or capillary action. Fasteners have been replaced with a diffusion-free material.

  • Antifreeze

The Shelter Comfort overlaps the windshield wipers and door locks, so that they are protected from frost.

  • Mosquito net

A mosquito net is sewn into the window. This allows the vehicle to be ventilated without annoying mosquitoes getting inside.

  • Air vent

The side panels can be partially raised or rolled up to ensure adequate ventilation. This feature can also be used in the rain.

  • Three-part cockpit

The cockpit insulation consists of three independent parts. This means the windshield insulation is separate from the door window insulation. The vehicle doors can be fully opened.

Shelter Thermic

The Shelter Thermic is designed for maximum insulation. The three-layer construction consists of a robust, weather-resistant outer fabric, an insulating middle layer, and a light-colored ripstop inner fabric.

  • Water diffusion barrier

No textiles protrude into the vehicle interior, preventing water from entering through diffusion or capillary action. Fasteners have been replaced with a diffusion-free material.

  • Antifreeze

The Shelter Thermic overlaps the windshield wipers and door locks, providing frost protection. The fabric remains foldable even at low temperatures without sustaining damage.

  • Three-layer insulation

The Shelter Thermic consists of three layers. The outer fabric is a tarpaulin material – extremely robust and weather-resistant. An insulating layer in the middle protects against frost and cold. A light-colored ripstop fabric completes the insulation and ensures a comfortable feeling of spaciousness inside the van.

  • Magnetic attachment

The Shelter Comfort is attached magnetically. No Velcro strips or similar adhesives are used on the vehicle.

  • Three-part cockpit

The cockpit insulation consists of three independent parts. This means the windshield insulation is separate from the door window insulation. The vehicle doors can be fully opened.

FAQ

Why use exterior insulation for the camper?

External insulation for a camper protects the vehicle's glazing from the outside and can perform several functions depending on the design. It serves as sun and heat protection in summer, as blackout and privacy screening, and – with appropriately constructed insulation – as thermal insulation in winter.

The great advantage of external insulation: solar radiation is blocked before it hits the glass. As a result, the glazing does not heat up as much.

Which exterior insulation is right for my camper?

Your requirements - Our recommendation

As small and light as possible --> Shelter Light

Sun protection and blackout --> Shelter Light

Heat protection + ventilation --> Shelter Comfort

Ventilation despite rain --> Shelter Comfort

Mosquito net --> Shelter Comfort

Summer and winter --> Shelter Thermic

Maximum thermal insulation --> Shelter Thermic

Three-layer construction -->Shelter Thermic

What is the difference between Shelter Light, Comfort, and Thermic?

The three product lines differ primarily in terms of features and insulation performance. Shelter Light is the compact basic solution, Shelter Comfort adds ventilation and a mosquito net to the heat protection, while Shelter Thermic is designed for particularly high insulation performance with three layers of material.

What are the benefits of external insulation in summer?

External insulation reduces direct sunlight on the vehicle glazing, thereby helping to protect the interior from excessive heating. With the Shelter Comfort, the integrated air vents can also be used for ventilation – even when it is raining.

How are the Felleisen external insulation systems attached?

The Shelter Light is simply stretched over the doors and the windshield. The Shelter Comfort and Shelter Thermic are attached magnetically and are theft-proof.
